1947-ben New Orleans-ba költöztek.

1985-ig, illetve 1991-ig éltek és mindketten a New Orleans-i zsidó temetőben vannak eltemetve.

Flora and Piroska Gellért were born in Baia Mare, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. There were two young Jewish women who were passionate about music and dancing. But the small mining town couldn’t give them the stage they needed.

In 1922 they left Baia Mare and emigrated to the United States of America. They took their stage names Nita and Zita, and here they managed to become celebrated and beloved artists, having hundreds of burlesque performances. In 1947 they moved to the city of New Orleans.

The house they lived in was one of the city’s attractions. The two sisters designed thousands of clothing items, and today there is no artist in New Orleans who does not have at least one piece of clothing sewn by Nita and Zita.

They lived until 1985 and 1991, respectively, and are both buried in the Jewish cemetery in New Orleans.

They and their lifestyle are still a point of interest for many artists in the USA.
