Reconstituirea destinului familiei Weiser

De aproximativ un an, încerc să reconstruiesc povestea de viață a membrilor familiei Weiser din Baia Mare, proprietarii fabricii Phoenix din perioada ante- și interbelică. După mai bine de 80 de ani, misiunea nu este deloc ușoară. M-am împotmolit în ultima vreme din lipsă de răspunsuri de la instituții și de informații noi.

Câteva repere există deja: unul dintre frați, Artur Weiser, a supraviețuit Holocaustului, stabilindu-se ulterior la București, unde a și decedat. Fiul lui Oszkár, Miklós, a supraviețuit de asemenea, aflându-se la Budapesta în anul 1944. La începutul anilor ’50 a emigrat, în America de Sud, a murit în Argentina în anul 1956. Cel de-al doilea frate, Oszkár Weiser a murit în anul 1944, iar soția, Margit a murit în anul 1959, fiind o supraviețuitoare a Holocaustului.

Joi, însă, am trăit o mare bucurie: am intrat în posesia acestei fotografii. Un amic care urmărește activitatea asociației noastre a cumpărat-o de la o licitație online și mi-a făcut-o cadou. Nici nu vă puteți imagina ce emoții am avut în momentul în care am deschis plicul și am găsit-o înăuntru. Mi-a dat un nou impuls!

Voi merge mai departe și voi reconstitui viața membrilor familiei Weiser. Merită să nu fie uitați de oraș, pentru că au fost cei care au oferit un trai pentru peste 3.000 de băimăreni. Au construit o fabrică, drumuri, stadion, școli, refugiu montan și multe altele. Au fost mult mai mult decât doar simpli industriași.

Körülbelül egy éve próbálom rekonstruálni a Nagybányán élő Weiser család tagjainak élettörténetét, akik a háború előtti és a két világháború közötti időszakban a Phoenix gyár tulajdonosai voltak. Több mint 80 év elteltével ez a küldetés egyáltalán nem könnyű. Az utóbbi időben kicsit el is akadtam: a válaszok késnek bizonyos intézményektől, az új információk pedig hiányoznak.

Néhány támpont azonban már rendelkezésre áll: az egyik testvér, Weiser Artúr túlélte a holokausztot, később Bukarestben telepedett le, és ott is hunyt el. Oszkár fia, Miklós szintén túlélte a vészkorszakot, ő 1944-ben Budapesten tartózkodott. Az 1950-es évek elején emigrált Dél-Amerikába, Argentínában hunyt el 1956-ben. A másik testvér, Weiser Oszkár 1944-ben meghalt, felesége Margit holokauszt túlélő és 1959-ben hunyt el.

Csütörtökön viszont nagy öröm ért: birtokomba került ez a fénykép. Egy barátom, aki figyelemmel kíséri egyesületünk tevékenységét, egy online árverésen vásárolta meg, és nekem ajándékozta. El sem tudjátok képzelni, milyen érzések kavarogtak bennem, amikor kinyitottam a borítékot, és megláttam benne a fotót! Új lendületet adott.

Folytatom a munkát, és felderítem a Weiser család tagjainak életét. Megérdemlik, hogy a város ne feledkezzék meg róluk, hiszen egykor több mint 3000 nagybányainak adtak megélhetést. Gyárat építettek, utakat, stadiont, iskolákat, hegyi menedékházat és még sok mást. Sokkal többek voltak, mint egyszerű iparmágnások.

For about a year now, I have been trying to reconstruct the life story of the members of the Weiser family from Baia Mare, the owners of the Phoenix factory during the pre- and interwar period. After more than 80 years, this mission is by no means easy. Lately, I’ve hit a wall due to a lack of answers from certain institutions and a shortage of new information.

A few key facts are already clear: one of the brothers, Artur Weiser, survived the Holocaust and later settled in Bucharest, where he passed away. Oszkárs son, Miklós, also survived, having been in Budapest in 1944. In the early 1950s he emigrated to South America, he died in Argentina in 1956. The second brother, Oszkár Weiser died in 1944, his wife Margit was a Holocaust survivor and passed away in 1959.

On Thursday, however, I experienced a moment of great joy: I came into possession of this photograph. A friend who follows our association’s work bought it at an online auction and gave it to me as a gift. You can’t imagine the rush of emotion I felt when I opened the envelope and found it inside. It gave me a fresh boost of momentum!

I will keep moving forward and reconstruct the lives of the Weiser family members. They truly deserve not to be forgotten by our city, as they once provided a livelihood for over 3,000 residents of Baia Mare. They built a factory, roads, a stadium, schools, a mountain shelter, and so much more. They were far more than just industrialists.
