Ziffer Sándor, pictorul orașului Baia Mare

Ziffer Sándor s-a născut în 3 mai 1880 în Eger, Ungaria într-o familie de evrei. El a fost botezat încă de la naștere în religia evanghelică, însă nu a scăpat de persecutările antisemite din perioada 1940-1944. A fost într-o tabără de muncă forțată de unde a rămas cu sechele pe viață, mai exact cu un șchiopătat.

A fost elev a lui Hollosy Simon în Munchen, părintele școlii de pictură din Baia Mare, însă a ajuns pentru prima dată în oraș abia în anul 1906. Face parte din generația a doua a artiștilor plastici care au poposit și regândit Școala de Pictură Băimăreană.

Apogeul carierei de artist a fost perioada interbelică. Lucrările sale au fost expuse în Paris, Berlin, Munchen, Hamburg sau Budapesta. I-a fost conferit titlul de Maestru emerit al artei – cea mai înaltă distincție instituită de statul român pentru a-și onora artiștii de excepție. A murit în anul 1962 și este înmormântat în Baia Mare.

Ziffer Sándor 1880. május 3-án született Egerben, zsidó családban. Születésétől fogva evangélikus vallásra keresztelték, de nem kerülte el az 1940-1944 közötti antiszemita üldöztetéseket. Egy kényszermunkatáborban volt, ahol egész életen át tartó fogyatékossággal marad, egészen pontosan sántítással.

Hollosy Simon tanítványa volt Münchenben, de Nagybányára csak 1906-ban érkezett először. A művészek második generációjának tagja, akik újragondolták a nagybányai festőiskolát.

A művész pályafutásának csúcsát a két világháború közötti időszak jelentette. Műveit Párizsban, Berlinben, Münchenben, Hamburgban vagy Budapesten állították ki. Elnyerte a Romá Munkaérdemrend címet – ez a legmagasabb kitüntetés, amelyet a román állam a kivételes művészek elismerésére alapított. 1962-ben halt meg és Nagybányán nyugszik.

Ziffer Sándor was born on May 3, 1880 in Eger, Hungary to a Jewish family. He was baptized in the evangelical religion from birth, but he did not escape the anti-Semitic persecutions from 1940-1944. He was in a forced labor camp where he was left with lifelong disabilities, a limp to be exact.

He was a student of Hollosy Simon in Munich, the father of the painting school in Baia Mare, but he arrived in the city for the first time only in 1906. He is part of the second generation of plastic artists who stopped and rethought the Baia Mare School of Painting.

The peak of the artist’s career was the interwar period. His works were exhibited in Paris, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg or Budapest. He was awarded the title of Emeritus Master of Art – the highest distinction instituted by the Romanian state to honor its exceptional artists. He died in 1962 and is buried in Baia Mare.
