In 1944, I was taken to the train station. My mother, my sister, and I were loaded into wagons meant for cattle. It was terribly overcrowded, we could barely breathe, and there was nowhere to take care of our needs. When the train stopped, we were given water.

When we arrived at Auschwitz and, under the shouting of the German soldiers, got off the wagon, my mother told us to always stay together, holding on to each other tightly. We clung to one another. Suddenly, a camp worker grabbed me forcefully, tore me away from my mother, and ordered me to go with another group. That was the last time I saw my mother and sister.

I arrived at the Birkenau camp. They took all my clothes except for my shoes. They shaved my head and marked a stripe down the middle. Then I was led into the barracks and assigned to a group. Each group had a kapo. I stayed in Auschwitz-Birkenau for about a month and a half before being transferred to the Mauthausen camp. After some time, I was moved to the Melk camp.
