În urmă cu 79 de ani au plecat spre Auschwitz 2844 de evrei din Baia Mare și împrejurimi

2844 de copii, femei și bărbați au fost deportați din gara Baia Mare în Auschwitz-Birkenau. În urmă cu 79 de ani plecau spre moarte sigură ultimii evrei băimăreni din ghetou.

Liebermann Mose: M-am născut în Baia Mare și am locuit acolo până la deportare în 1944. Doar patru frați din întreaga mea familie (părinți și opt copii) s-au întors. Am stat în ghetoul din Baia Mare vreo două săptămâni. Ne era foarte foame. Am fost complet separați de lume. În vagon eram vreo 80 de persoane. Nu am avut ocazia să dormim sau să ne odihnim și nu ne-am putut spăla. Nu am îndrăznit să mâncăm din puțina mâncare pe care o aveam, pentru că nu știam încotro mergem și cât va dura călătoria. Am ajuns la Auschwitz dimineața. Am fost forțați să lăsăm totul în vagon. Am trecut imediat printr-un proces de selecție și nu știam ce se întâmplă și în ce scop. Abia mai târziu ne-au anunțat că unii dintre noi au fost condamnați la moarte în camerele de gazare.

Liebermann Mose: Nagybányán születtem, és ott éltem az 1944- es deportálásig. Teljes családomból (szülők és nyolc gyermek) négy testvér tért vissza. A nagybányai gettóban körülbelül két hétig voltam. Sokat éheztünk. Teljesen el voltunk zárva a világtól. A vagonban mintegy 80-an voltunk. Nem volt lehetségünk aludni vagy pihenni, és nem tudtunk mosakodni. A nálunk levő kevés ételt nem mertük megenni, mivel nem tudtuk hová utazunk, és mennyi ideig tart az utazás. Reggel érkeztünk Auschwitzba. Mindenünket kénytelenek voltunk a vagonban hagyni. Azonnal szelekción mentünk át, s nem tudtuk mi folyik és mi célból. Csak később tudatták velünk, hogy egy részünket halálra ítélték a gázkamrákban.

2844 children, women and men were deported from the Baia Mare, Maramureș county, Romania (Hungary then) train station to Auschwitz-Birkenau. 79 years ago, the last Jews from Baia Mare left the ghetto for certain death.

Liebermann Mose: I was born in Baia Mare and lived there until the deportation in 1944. Only four siblings from my entire family (parents and eight children) returned. I stayed in the Baia Mare ghetto for about two weeks. We were very hungry. We were completely cut off from the world. There were about 80 people in the train. We didn’t get a chance to sleep or rest and we couldn’t wash. We did not dare to eat the little food we had, because we did not know where we were going and how long the journey would take. I arrived at Auschwitz in the morning. We were forced to leave everything in the wagon. I immediately went through a selection process and I didn’t know what was going on and for what purpose. Only later did they inform us that some of us were sentenced to death in the gas chambers.
