Primii evrei au sosit pe la mijlocul secolui XIX. În 1869 în Baia Sprie trăiau doar 31 de evrei, în 1910 268 de persoane s-au declarat evrei, iar la recensământul din 1941 din 4292 de locuitori s-au declarat evrei 309 persoane.
Comunitatea de aici era arondată celei din Baia Mare. Sinagoga a fost construită între anii 1909-1910. Meir Nadler a servit ca rabin, învățător și daian până în 1937.
Evreii din oraș lucrau în minerit și în industria hotelieră. La momentul acela Baia Sprie era o stațiune balneară îndrăgită. Însă, regăsim evrei și printre funcționarii publici, agenți comerciali sau în industria lemnului.
Ernő Zakariás a fost cel mai important președinte al comunității din Baia Sprie. Activitatea sionistă era aproape inexistentă.
Ultimul rabin a comunității a fost Perec Tuvja Strohli. Acesta a fost deportat și ucis în Auschwitz.
Cel mai important evreu din Baia Sprie este Adolf Boros, proprietar de tipografie în Satu Mare și conducător al comunității status quo ante din oraș.
Evreii de aici au fost duși în ghetoul de pe Valea Borcutului, iar în luna iunie au fost urcați în trenuri și duși în Auschwitz. Aici majoritatea dintre ei au fost uciși de cum au pășit pe peron.
După Holocaust s-au întors puțini supraviețuitori. Dacă în 1947 80 de persoane s-au declarat evrei, în anul 2002 mai trăia un singur evreu în oraș.

🇭🇺 Az első zsidók a 19. században érkeztek Felsőbányára. 1869-ben mindössze 31 zsidó élt Felsőbányán; 1910-ben 268 személy vallotta magát zsidónak. Az 1941-es népszámlálás során 4292 állampolgárból mindössze 309 vallotta magát zsidónak.
Felsőbánya zsidó közössége kapcsolódott a Nagybányához. A zsinagóga 1909-1910 között épült. Meir Nadler rabbijaként, tanárként és daianként szolgált egészen 1937-ig.
A felsőbányai zsidók többnyire a bányászatban és a szállodaiparban dolgoztak. Abban az időben Felsőbánya híres balnár üdülőhely volt. Ezenkívül találunk zsidókat a város közigazgatásában, kereskedelmi munkásokként vagy a faiparban.
Zakariás Ernő volt a közösség legfontosabb vezetője. A cionista tevékenység szinte nem létezett.
A közösség utolsó rabbija Perec Tuvja Strohl volt. Auschwitzba deportálták és ott megölték.
Felsőbánya legfontosabb zsidó személyisége Boros Adolf volt, Szatmárnémeti legfontosabb nyomdájának tulajdonosa és a város status quo ante közösségének vezetője.
A felsőbányai zsidókat a Borkúti gettóba küldték és júniusban pedig Auschwitzba. Ott többségüket megölték.
A holokauszt után nem tért vissza sok zsidó. 1947-ben mindössze 80 ember vallotta magát zsidónak, míg 2002-ben egyetlen zsidó maradt a városban.

The Jewish community of Baia Sprie was connected to the Baia Mare one. The synagogue was built between 1909-1910. Meir Nadler served as its Rabby, teacher and daian up until 1937.
The Jews of Baia Sprie were mostly working in the mining and hotel industries. At the time, Baia Sprie was a renown balnearic resort. Furthermore, we do wind Jews working in the city’s administration, or as commercial workers or in the wood industry.
Ernő Zakariás was the most important leader of the community. The zionist activity was almost non-existent.
The last Rabbi of the community was Perec Tuvja Strohl. He was deported and killed in Auschwitz.
The most important Jewish person of Baia Sprie was Adolf Boros, owner of the most important tipography of Satu Mare and leader of the status-quo ante community from town.
The Jews of Baia Sprie were sent to the Valea Borcutului ghetto, and in the month of June 1947 they were sent to Auschwitz. There, the majority of them were killed as soon as they stepped off the train.
After the Holocaust, most of them did not return. In 1947, only 80 people declared themselves Jewish, whilst in 2002 there was only one Jew left in the city.
