1840-ben 49-re, 1920-ban 298-ra emelkedett a zsidók száma. A deportálás előtti utolsó népszámláláson, amelyet 1941-ben végeztek, a szarvaszói zsidó közösség 161 főt számlált.

A zsidók többsége fakitermelésben dolgozott; néhányan azonban a kereskedelemben vagy a mezőgazdaságban is dolgoztak.

A 19. század közepén zsinagógát épitettek. A szarvaszói zsidó közösség a szigeti ortodox közösséghez tartozott.

Back in 1746, only two Jewish families were living in Sarasău, with seven people. In 1840, the number of Jews rose up to 49, whilst in 1920 the number was at 298. At the last census before the deportation, which was taken in 1941, the Jewish community of Sarasău had 161 people.

The majority of Jews were working in wood exploitation; however, some were also working in trade or agriculture.

During the middle of the 19th century, a ritual synagogue has been built. During the same period, the cemetery has also been founded. The Jewish community of Sarasău belonged to the Siget orthodox community.

After the First World War, a large portion of the Jewish community either moved to Sighet or decided to migrate, especially in the US.

The entirety of the Jewish community had Yiddish as its mother tongue.

In 1944, the German occupants and the Hungarian forces gathered all the Jews from the settlement and moved them into the Slatina Ghetto. Their deportation started on the 23rd of May. The majority of them were killed in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

After the War no Jews were left in Sarasău.
